2002 Team Southern California

Fundraising and Sponsorship Guidelines

1.  Team Southern California Donations:

  • Each team member is responsible for participating in Team Southern California fund raising activities organized through the NKFSC office.
  • 100% of all funds raised through NKFSC sponsored events solely for the U.S. Transplant Games is restricted to the Transplant Games fund.  This fund is used for:

      Team uniforms, pins, hats and other apparel,  Stationary, postage, etc.
Start-up costs for fundraising events,  Sponsorship of at least one donor family to accompany the team,   Pre and post gatherings,  Direct expenses,  Indirect overhead (to be deducted once all direct expenses are met, including travel grants), Travel grants (to include airfare, hotel for four nights, and a meal stipend of $50 per day, if funds are available).

  • Any net revenue, after the above expenses are met, is subject to a 25% share of cost to the National office.
  • Any funds remaining after the share of cost is deducted will be held over for the next U.S. Transplant Games to be used for start-up costs.
  • The NKFSC office will generate letters requesting donations for Team Southern California per athlete or donor family requests.  Athletes may also make solicitation requests upon the approval of the NKFSC office to assure duplicate requests are not sent.
  • Donations should be made payable to NKFSC with “Transplant Games” designated on the check.  The NKFSC Tax ID number is 95-1998472.
  • The NKFSC will send a thank you letter that includes acknowledgement of all Team donations for tax purposes.
  • If a group goal of raising $1000 per person is met, all travel expenses will automatically be covered.

2.  Sponsor Recognition:

  • $500 and up – name or logo on back of Team t-shirts, one Transplant Games Highlights video, and one organ donor license plate frame.
  • $1000 and up – name or logo on back of Team t-shirts, mention on NKFSC website, mention in the 2002 U.S. Transplant Games Commemorative Booklet, mention in all publicity, one team t-shirt, one Transplant Games Highlights video and one donor license plate frame.
  • For a contribution of $2,500 or more, please speak to the Team Manager.

3.  Travel Grants:

  • Awarded only if funds are available.
  • If the group goal is met, all travel expenses will be paid for each athlete (based on recommended travel grant by the Fundraising Committee – not to exceed $1000).
  • If the group goal is not met, any balance remaining after expenses are paid will be distributed evenly between all athletes and donor family members.
  • To be eligible for a travel grant, each athlete must raise a minimum of $300 in team donations on his/her own.
  • Travel grants will be awarded upon return from the Games.
  • Hotel and airline receipts are necessary in order to be awarded a grant.
  • Athletes/donor families are responsible for all expenses not covered by travel grants including registration fees and ground transportation.

4.  Fundraising Committee Duties:

  • Secure in-kind donations of team apparel
  • Identify corporate contacts for solicitation
  • Organize team fundraising activities
  • If any funds are available, the committee will recommend the amount of the travel grant given to each team member to the NKFSC for approval.

5.  The NKFSC’s duties:

  • The NKFSC office will generate letters requesting donations for Team Southern California per athlete or donor family requests.

  • The NKFSC will send a thank you letter that includes acknowledgement of all Team donations for tax purposes.
  • The NKFSC will approach foundations for Games funding.The NKFSC will assist with funding for the following items if the Team falls short of its fundraising goal, listed in order of priority, as funding becomes available:

1)  Direct & indirect overhead expenses (including staff time), 2)  Meal stipend, 3)  Team apparel, 4)  Travel expenses

  • The Team Manager shall coordinate the planning of the Transplant Games program, including team coordination, dissemination of information to the team via a Team Bulletin and Team Listserv, serve as the team liaison throughout the year with the National office, fill any requests or needs on behalf of the team, assist with athlete recruitment, disseminate information to the media, and attend the U.S. Transplant Games with Team Southern California to take care of the needs of any team member as they may arise.
  • If there is a team of 30 athletes or larger, a second NKFSC staff person may be asked to attend the Games and assist the Team Manager.
